Night Time- Indian Telecom Operator's Definition

As the title suggests Night Time- Indian Telecom Operator's Definition looks at the marketing gimmicks by Indian Telcos in making the consumer fool.

When we say night time what comes to mind ? Is it 09 pm to 06 am or 11 PM to 06 AM.  Let us look at the offer by the telcos. In this cut throat telecom market a lot of players offered night time freebies in respect to data. Before the entr of Reliance jio the incumbent operator offered cheaper or free data at nights.

Airtel for example started with the news that it has slashed 3G data b 67% but in reality it is what you are getting.

Recharge amount : 346

Benefit : 1GB 3G/4G+
               2GB Night(12-6AM)

Validity : 28 Days

So You can clearly see how the have used the marketing gimmick to fool the customer. for a GB useful data the are charging a whooping 346 Rupees and for the rest 2 GB the customer have to trade with his sleep.

Now comes to Vodafone
4G/3G

Internet Combo (Day + Night)

Close
MRPRS. 356
TypeInternet pack
TalktimeRS. 0

Very smartly they have also marketed that the are giving 50% extra but surprisingly the night time is same for Vodafone 12 am to 6 am.

Now look us at Idea, the Adita Birla telecom arm.
2961 GB + 1 GB Night + 1GB 4G-Only28 Days

Compared to vodafone the price is a little lower but benefit and timing same.

Did anyone guessed cartel. How the number of datas, timing of night and definition of night plus pricing to a certain extent remains same.

Now let us see the blockbuster operator Reliance Jio which created the market to change (the above so called night offers)

In 299 bucks Jio is offering 2 GB data plus unlimited night browsing. My first though was wow unlimited night browsing. At least jio would be better in terms of extending the night say 10 pm to 7 am or 11 pm to 06 am. So that i could keep a lot of videos offline during this time or download (if it is available)

But to my surprise. For Mukesh Ambani's Jio night is even shorter. from 2 am to 5 am. Wowwwwwwwwwwww.
marketing gimmick at its best. Jio which promised of disruptive service definitely brought a disruptive definition of night time.

This is the font in Reliance jio website to describe the Unlimited at Night offer ( if You can read the point number 2 wow)
Unlimited at Night

features

2. "Unlimited at Night" pertains to data used between 2am – 5am.

Since You can not read it I have increased the font size for you which read as

Now I thought let us have a look at at the ailing State run PSU BSNL and MTNL whome even prime minister is nor supporting.

BSNL has the following 3G plan

Price 291^^^data 2.2 GB days 28

Their website is a mess why they cant have a simpler website but if you compare the price they match with every one and the data can be used at your convenience. not from 12 to 06 am.

While MTNL Mumbai was offering
3G 299*2992.5 GB0.6428 days

a higher data for a 300 bucks pack, again no timing restriction. Source http://mtnlmumbai.in/index.php/mobile/3g/prepaid

On the other hand BSNL has a free talktime offer for its landline customer by which they can have unlimited local and STD calls during night time. And Guess now what is the night time, The Mittal standard Time or The Ambani standard time ? Sorry its Indian Standard timing.

According to BSNL 9 pm to 7 am is night

Similarly MTNL has the same night calling offer but being metro Like Mumbai & Delhi the timing is a little different. its 10 pm to 07 am.

Now its upto the reader chosse wisely like an owl. Did anybody said owl is active in the night ???
